Botox injections in Toronto

Botox is an abbreviation for Botulinum toxin, which is a chemical product used to address patients’ wrinkle problems (usually on the face). Botox acts as a paralyzing agent and is injected in the area of the muscles and nerves that cause wrinkles: by blocking their activity, botox prevents lines from appearing and can flatten existing ones. It is sometimes also injected as a treatment for specific ailments such as pain caused by muscle spasms, migraines or excessive blinking.

The effects of botox are temporary and typically last 3 to 4 months, but may depend heavily on the patient’s profile and the quality of the product (storage at a certain temperature is critical in avoiding alterations of the product).

Reducing Complications From Botox Injections

Although increasingly common, Botox injections have to be done by a qualified doctor. Botox is a very potent toxin and can be very dangerous if misused. It is crucial for a patient to consult with a specialized doctor in order to verify they’re eligible for botox, and so they can be aware of the risks and possible side effects.

Several cases of severe complications due to “fake botox” have been reported, so it is extremely important for a patient to only receive botox injections from a qualified and trustworthy doctor.

Side Effects and Recovery

As a chemical product that paralyzes muscles, botox is to be handled with the utmost care when injected. But even so, side effects can be observed in some patients, including paralysis of certain muscles, which can produce either functional or visible effects on the patient’s face (eyelids, and jaws for example can be affected). Injections can sometimes result in bruising, which usually subsides after a few days, and other side effects like pain and fever.
