Face Lift Surgery in Toronto

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure meant to give the patient a rejuvenated look by tightening their face’s skin (it can also be performed on the patient’s neck) and thus flattening wrinkles and excess skin.

The operation is carried out under general anesthesia and consists in changing the look and feel of a patient’s face or neck. The surgeon will form an incision along the patient’s hairline, in order to lift the facial skin up and remodel the face, which involves cutting off excess skin, removing and sometimes re-injecting fat.

The resulting incision is usually rather significant in size and is later sutured and bandaged over (sometimes a tube is also inserted into the incision to drain excess fluid). The stitches are hidden in the scalp and every effort is made to make them as invisible as possible.

Reducing Complications From Face Lifts

As a cosmetic surgical procedure, a facelift is not without risks, and is usually not recommended for people who are not is good general health and/or are smokers. Risks do exist and as for any surgery a full assessment will have to be performed prior to the surgery.

Recovery and Side Effects

Recovery will take a few weeks and final results may take up to several months to be visible. The scars in particular may take a long time to fully heal. Side effects include bruising, swelling, pain and some less common ones (the risk of infection for example is one of them), and can be treated with specific medication.

Long-term results

A face lift is a very popular procedure that is effective in giving the patient a rejuvenated look for a long time (depending on the patient’s profile and how well they take care of their skin, a facelift could last up to 7-10 years). It doesn’t, of course, stop the aging process and some patients might feel the need for another procedure much sooner than others.
