Brow lift Surgery in Toronto

A brow lift, or forehead lift, is a surgical procedure useful to improve the look of a patient’s face by lifting up their brow and flattening forehead wrinkles. It is often coupled with another similar operation like a face lift or an eye lift.

A brow lift is performed under general anesthesia and consists in several small incisions just above the hairline (alternatively, incisions can be made within the eye brows or concealed in a deep wrinkle for some patients). The facial skin is then lifted upwards using blunt forceps. Once the skin is detached from the skull, the surgeon will pull the skin back in order to elevate the brow and flatten wrinkles.

Several techniques are used for this: either by stitching up the incisions higher in order to lift the brow, or by fixing the skin at a higher position using small subcutaneous devices. A brow lift used to be done through a long, ear-to-ear incision, but this practice is less and less frequent. Suturing and bandaging (with sometimes a drainage tube for excess fluid) follows.

Reducing Side Effects and Complications From Brow Lifts

Side effects including bruising, pain, swelling and difficulty of movement usually occur and can be treated with medication and special care. Complications, as in any cosmetic surgical procedure, are a possibility. That is why it is crucial for prospective patients to perform a full assessment with Dr. Golger prior to the operation, in order to verify that they are good candidates and assess risks of complications.

Recovery

Recovery can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks depending on many factors, including the size of the incisions. Return to a normal life is usually possible after 5 to 10 days, while the healing process will continue for several weeks or sometimes months after that. The results of the procedure will become more and more visible as the healing progresses, and will be final after a few months. Scarring will be visible but well hidden either in the patient hair, eyebrows or wrinkles.

Brow lifts are very popular and are effective in giving the patient a rejuvenated look. They don’t, of course, stop the aging process.
